On the 18th June Part Two of the #FitForPurpose series aired as part of the Awakening Show hosted by Daina Anderson on New Style Radio 98.7 FM. Throughout this year The Profit For Purpose Radio Mastermind will be examining what it means to be Fit For Purpose. In the second show we looked at how to important mastering your mind is in order to fulfil your God given purpose. I was joined on the show by Marcia Levine who shared her personal insights into bringing order to your mind through reading Gods word.

In this post I am going to explore why its important to Master our minds and tips for doing it in practice.
The key point that I have realised when studying the topic is that thoughts become things, what we focus will begin to manifest within our lives. That means that our thoughts are fearful and negative they will steal our peace and hold us back. Philippians 4:6 states ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.’
Once we understand that what we think has an impact on what we experience we can then begin to take action in relation to how we think. We must realise that what we feed our minds determines what we think about. What you put in determines what comes out, garbage in garbage out! What are you feeding you mind with what you watch, listen to, read or speak? Proverbs 15:14 says ‘The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.’
This means that we can change our minds by changing what we focus on and by replacing negative inputs with positive inputs. So what should be focus on? In Philippians 4:8 Paul spells it out for us when he say ‘Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.’ Below are some practical actions we can take to change our minds:
- Read our bible and pray regularly.
- Change what we see- watch things that inspire us, go to places that inspire us.
- Change our environment.
- Read positive, inspiring and Godly things.
- Connect with positive and Godly people, have inspiring conversations.
- Listen to inspiring and edifying things whether this be music, sermons or a radio show!
- Ask for Gods help- be persistent in prayer.
Romans 12:2 states ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.’ Changing and renewing our minds is a process which takes practice but we will succeed if we do not give up. If we are diligent and disciplined in renewing our minds, we will reap the rewards of peace, our actions and words will be aligned with Gods perfect will.
It comes down to this, in order to fulfil our purpose we have to overcome fearful, toxic and self-limiting beliefs. We have to begin to think like Christ. As Joyce Meyer says ‘Where the mind goes the man follows’.
