On the 7th May, I launched the Profit for Purpose Radio Mastermind as part of the Awakening Show hosted by Daina Anderson on New Style Radio 98.7 FM. Throughout this year we will be examining what it means to be Fit For Purpose. In the first show, we looked at how to discover your God given purpose so that you are able to pursue it. I was joined on the show by Madge Milligan Green who shared her expertise and experience with the listeners.

In this post I am going to explore 3 key steps to discovering and actively pursuing your purpose.
Step 1- Acknowledge that you have no purpose apart from God
‘Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.’ John 1:3
I believe when we lose sight of God, his will and ways we lose sight of our ultimate purpose. Aside from our personal desires, passions and dreams, God created us on purpose for a purpose. We need to recognise that our personal purpose is interwoven with Gods ultimate plan for his creation. What a wonderful privilege!
Step 2- Embrace your strengths
Your strengths are purpose pointers, they provide clues about how God intends to use you. Furthermore, using your gifts to help others is a form of worship. Often we focus more on our weaknesses than we do our strengths, I believe this can become an unhealthy distraction from our purpose. We can also become distracted when we covert the gifts of others rather than valuing the talents and the abilities God has entrusted to us. Numbers 16:8-10 captures this perfectly, don’t reject what God has entrusted to you chasing after what was never yours to have.
Step 3- Identify and meet the needs of others
Ultimately our purpose is about using all that God has entrusted to us to meet the needs of others. God works through his people, he has equipped you for service. Using our gifts and abilities to serve only ourselves is not living a purposeful life. Our gifts truly are a gift to others. So identify the needs that exist around you and use what you have been given to meet them. You may think that you don’t have much to offer, but if you bring to God what you have you will be amazed at what he can do with it!
Bonus Step- Recognise that you are already positioned for purpose
It maybe difficult to see how where you are today is part your purpose. Maybe you are where I have been, feeling stuck and frustrated in your current situation. Well, I want to encourage you, there is power in where you are placed! Often it’s only retrospectively that we see how the hard times, low points or trials contributed to our breakthrough. It’s in the trenches that our characters are developed and our spiritual muscle is strengthened. Wherever you find yourself today, ask yourself what is God trying to teach me? How can I glorify God in this situation? Who am I here to bless?
Put simply our purpose is to be servants of God, using our gifts and talents to meet the needs of others.
Until next time, stay blessed.
